GALVA - Service for Florence Myers, 95, formerly of Galva, who died Dec. 9, 2005, in Mountain Home, Ark., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Rux Funeral Home, with the Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating.She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Panola, the daughter of Theobald and Frederika Reiner Stimpert.
She married Clarence H. Myers in 1936. He died in 1957.
Surviving are two sons, Derek (and Rhoda) Myers, Blacksburg, Va., and Paul Myers, Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Jane (and Andy) Elder, Gainesville, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, four half brothers and three half sisters.
She graduated from El Paso High School in 1928. She attended college in Chicago and South Dakota, receiving a degree in physical education from Sterling College.
She taught physical education at Galva High School and later in Kenosha, Wis., and Lockport, Ill. She taught dance and staged several recitals in Galva and Kewanee. She worked at Field Enterprises and several other firms. During the 1950s, she operated the Big Top in Princeton, and later served as executive director of the YWCA in Waukegan. She retired to Florida in 1975. She was active in Gray Panthers and helped foster a better understanding and treatment of mental illness. She moved to Gainesville, Mo., in 2003.
She was a member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Sarasota, Fla.
Cremation was accorded. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
