GALESBURG - Dr. Charles W. Carman, 81, 3038 Parkway Court, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday (April 20, 2006) at Seminary Manor.He was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Charles A. and Elizabeth V. Ford Carman.
He married Elizabeth F. Chatters on Aug. 15, 1947, in Morgan Park. She died Dec. 3, 1988. He married Frances Van Gieson on May 5, 1990, in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Charles H. Carman, Northport, Mich.; two daughters, Cynthia F. Carman (and V. James) Rich, Galesburg, and Anne E. (and Jerry) Carman-Hendel, Monmouth; a sister, Charlotte E. Foote, Carbondale; four grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.
He graduated from Harvard School for Boys High School in 1942. He attended Kalamazoo College for a year and Western Michigan University for a year. He entered the Navy and served during World War II as an ensign. He graduated from Dennison University and University of Illinois Dental School.
He practiced dentistry in Galesburg from 1951 until retiring in 1986.
He attended First Baptist Church and Central Congregational Church, both in Galesburg. He was a former member and past president of Galesburg Kiwanis Club and Galesburg Community Chorus, and was a member of Prairie Valley Dental Society.
He was a former member of Galesburg Tennis Association. He won the Senior Olympics Tennis Division in Springfield, and participated in the National Senior Olympics in Syracuse, N.Y.
Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Central Congregational Church, with the Revs. Tom Heather and Tom Larsen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be in Northport, Mich. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
